How to Import Data in Akeneo?

From time to time, businesses need to update their catalog and add more products to their inventory. This product information might come from external sources like retailers, merchants and wholesalers.

While importing data in Akeneo, make sure your data is stored in CSV or XLSX file as Akeneo only accepts data from these two file formats. During the import process, Akeneo PIM extracts the data and converts it to store in the PIM. Let us show you step by step guide to import data successfully in Akeneo.

5 Steps to Import Data in Akeneo

#1 Create an import profile

Before we create an import profile, let us understand what an import profile is? An import profile has a bunch of information that is required to perform the import. For instance, the import profile contains a code to determine the import profile, a number of tasks that the import will perform while executing and a set of configuration fields.

This is how you can create an import profile:

#a. Log in to your account with ‘Create an import profile’ permission

      #b. Navigate to ‘Imports’ menu

#c. Click on ‘Create import profile

#d. Fill all the fields in the pop-up window

               #i. A unique code

#ii. An easy label name to recognize the profile

#iii. A job description is related to what you want to import

#e. Click on ‘Save’ to confirm your import profile creation

#2 Build the file either manually or by using third-party applications

#3 Upload the file in PIM or allow PIM to fetch the file from a given path

#4 Launch the CSV or XLSX file import

Now that we are prepared to import our data, let us show you how to run an import.
